A report has said   that we are n’t producing enough fruit and vegetables for everyone to rust a healthy dieting .

Published in the journalPLOS One , the inquiry led by the University of Guelph looked at spherical agrarian production , extrapolating to the year 2050 , compare with how much food nutritionists say we should eat . And the outcome were n’t specially good news .

" We simply ca n’t all adopt a respectable diet under the current global farming scheme , " Professor Evan Fraser from the University of Guelph , a atomic number 27 - author on the study , said in astatement .

Professor Fraser added that while we are   currently overproducing grains , fat , and sugars , product of fruit and veggie are   “ not sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of the current universe . ”

To make their determination , the team worked on the assumption that one-half of our diet should consist of fruit and vegetable , a quarter whole grain , and the other fourth consisting of protein , fat , and dairy farm . These are recommendations in Harvard University ’s “ Healthy Eating Plate ” guide .

Then they looked at how much ground was being used for farming , and how much we ’d need to meet these guideline , project the finding to 2050 when the worldwide population could reach 9.8 billion , according to theUnited Nations . And while there were plenty of grains , sugar , and fat to go round , fruit and vegetables , and protein too , were in light supply .

“ They found that we now farm 12 serving of grains per soul or else of the recommended eight ; five servings of fruit and vegetable rather of 15 ; three servings of oil and fat instead of one ; three servings of protein alternatively of five ; and four serving of bread rather of none , ” the statement noted .

One reason for this might be that developing countries tend to pore on carbohydrates , which are easier to create . These land have also expend more money search and developing such crops , rather than fruits or vegetables .

The other way out is that fertile , sugar , and salt “ are tasty ” , note co - author Krishna KC . " All of these factors combined have resulted in a world system that is really overproducing these types of foods . "

To fill the recommendations , the research worker said we would involve to eat less essence , while more plant - establish proteins would need to be modernize . And if we do n’t alter , by 2050 we could need 12 million more hectares of arable country and 1   billion hectare of pasture demesne to assemble current requirement .
