Saturday Night Livestars Ana Gasteyer,Ego Nwodim, and Sarah Sherman are opening up about the food on the set of the legendary sketch variety show ahead of its 50th anniversary.

In a Feb. 14interview withBon Appétit, the three women reminisced about their time on the show, with Gasteyer having earlier memories during her six-season tenure that ended in 2002. Gasteyer highlighted the adrenaline-fueled acts that would happen in sketches that many would normally second-guess participating in, whereas, in theSNLworld, it was all quite normal.

“There’s no food atSaturday Night Live,” Gasteyer noted. “At least, I don’t know how it’s now.”

Sherman corroborated that, echoing, “No food.”

She recalled stealing the food and the “little sandwich baskets” bands would leave behind after recording their performances and even got candid about taking Tootsie Rolls and popcorn from someone’s office, leading Nwodim to note the plethora of candy that’s always available on set.

“There’s candy everywhere. No shortage of candy,” she said. “I mean whatever kind of candy you want. Hi-Chews, Laffy Taffys.” She even shared where you can find the candy stashes: “Page desk. Also, there’s a little drawer and wardrobe. Top drawer in the wardrobe department.”

When asked what snacks are available during the day, Sherman replied, “Girl, there’s none,” and pointed at Nwodim’s habit of always looking at restaurant menus.

“Mikey [Day] said this about me a few years ago and I didn’t realize it,” Nwodim recalled, “but he goes, ‘Every time I look over at you and on your phone, you’re looking at menus.’”

Nwodim explained that she’s always planning meals and bookmarking venues for later. “He’s like, ‘You’re not on social media. You’re not texting.’ Don’t love texting famously, but, boy, am I looking at menus. It’s a big part of my personality.”
