On the eve of the Windows 7 launching , we ’ve been doing some reminiscing , but it hit us : There have been right smart more than six uniquely named anterior versions of Windows . So how does Microsoft bet ?
1,2 , and3 : These were the original DOS - ground Windows that started it all . Windows 3.1is the first version I remember ( and even that only vaguely ) .
4 : Windows 4.0 includesWindows 95,98,MEandNT 4.0 .
5 : Windows 2000and all the flavors ofWindows XP .
6 : The oft - malignedWindows Vista(andWindows Server 2008 ) .
