Google does a lot of things , but perhaps chief amongst them is advertize . It ’s perhaps no surprise , then , that it ’s apparently now in talks to obtain email addresses from advertisers so that it can place its ware push more accurately than ever .
The Wall Street Journal reportsthat Google is presently trying to convince advertisers to hand over customer selective information such as email addresses , according to people familiar with the affair . It also explains how itplans to use them :
An office - supply retail merchant would give Google the email addresses of recent printing machine purchasers . The retail merchant could then bid to show ads when those people search for pressman ink on google.com . The retailer could also tailor its Google advert base on other selective information it knows about the customer , including age , gender or anterior purchases .
It is n’t unmortgaged how Google might match e-mail addresses on its end , but one of the people familiar with the matter said it could use Gmail speech . Many users of Google serve include Gmail , YouTube and Google Maps also provide secondary email addresses to the ship’s company . For now , the ads would be limited to hunt results and would n’t include streamer ads , this person said .
The advantages for both Google and advertisers are obvious : well direct ads bring more sales , and a closer inter-group communication between the actual and digital realms can provide even more marketing baron . The benefit for the rest of us are , perhaps , a little less clear . [ WSJ ]
