When a show gets canceled before its clock time , it can go out gracefully or it can go out like an greasy scag on the trousers . Unfortunately for The Event , we got the full smackage .
But I will give the series this : It stayed straight to itself , with an closing that made no signified , yet was nevertheless pack with revelations that were both timeworn and irritatingly incomplete . We did get to find out what “ the event ” really was , though . All I can say is WTF . Let us take this bit to say goodbye to a show we never desire , and never care , but will nevertheless sort of miss in a masochistic elbow room .

At that moment , a extra closed book CDC specialist arrives on the downlow , wearing a neat hazmat suit and dribble one of those clandestine CDC grip things – you know the ones I signify . They have special anti - contamination pinger and tons of plastic tubing and whatever it was they used on ET to make him find really sad . Seriously , who had the idea that there ’s a “ cloak-and-dagger CDC social unit ” anyway ?

They take Lala back to their mysterious CDC facility , which we find out later is sort of attached to a hospital , except you have to go through those doors that the MST3 K guys always go bad through in the intro to every show .
Now everybody can see your space crackMeanwhile , Sophia is bounce along in a motorcar , masterminding the ending of flu Revelation of Saint John the Divine . She and her pals are targeting a food product plant life , a money mint , and an airport with their tupperwares of doom . And then , just as she and her disposable exotic buddy are near the airport , a blowy , shiny earthquakey affair pass off ! pilus is muck up everywhere ! Somebody falls off a bicycle ! Elsewhere in the world , thing get on attack !
“ The portal is creating a door in the fabric of distance and we just cracked it open , ” Sophia intones . “ Our people are arriving soon . ”
Disposable foreigner pal mutters something about “ misgivings about the native universe , ” but who cares because the television camera zooms up into CGI land and we see the Earth flank by a giant blue shiny portal thing ! Might as well blow the whole limited effects budget because this is our last episode !
The VP is still wholly evil and deluded , and the president has stubbleI always loved the passing ludicrous politicking in this show . Everybody is always spilling their malefic architectural plan the right way out in the open , or making phone call in which they say things like , “ Oh my god , now that I ’m a liquidator , how do I cover my tracks ? Team up with the extraterrestrial being ? Oh , good idea . allow me make trusted I resist right in front of the surveillance devices in my White House office while I talk over my confederacy plot of ground . ”
And that ’s just what the VP does , when he argues with the still - tottering president about how nobody will believe Martinez that the VP poisoned him and made a deal with Sophia . Does n’t he think that Martinez might have a freakin ’ MP3 gimmick on him recording every watchword ?
When Martinez does n’t bribe the VP ’s whole “ I negotiated a peace with Sophia ” line , the VP runs away and jumps mightily onto the phone with Sophia to whiningly ask her whether she ’s about to infect the planet with death . Sophia gives the same line she ’s give in ( I think ) at least five instalment in a run-in : “ There will be a fresh world order with your guiding hand . ”
expect , uh , I did n’t quite get that . Is there some point that the writers are trying to make here ? Some credit to “ new world order ” that resonates beyond this show ? I ’m really unclear on it . I trust that Sophia will repeat it again so I get the idea . BUT NO SHE NEVER WILL BECAUSE THIS IS THE LAST EPISODE EVER ! MWAHAHAAHAHA !
A whole lot of masses shoot peopleOne of the things this serial is right at is making shoot - out altogether irksome . Sean , Vicky , Sterling , and Simon get their secret CDC penetrating torpedo to gun down everybody bring computer virus into the food facility and the mint . Now they just have to get to the aerodrome where Sophia is delivering the computer virus !
Meanwhile , we have tidy sum of time for a really longsighted vista of Sophia buzz off the scanner and wand at the airport , and hyperventilating while her product locating roving gimmick rings . At this spot , I ’m totally excited that the aliens will arrive soon and shoot down everybody and supervene upon all production placement mobile gimmick with human slaves whose brains have be rewire to be compliant with cellular net .
A fascinating setting of the Cabinet canvass the President ’s aesculapian recordsAs the gunfight go down , the President and the VP are duking it out at the Cabinet confluence where everybody will make up one’s mind if Martinez can take over as Full On President again by examining paragraph 3 segment 2 of his aesculapian records .

Then the President order a bunch of stuff about how this was all “ a tragedy born of insecurity and hubris ” and that the VP was “ so hungry for power that he would trade his person and the mortal of his country . ” I love how The Event always bring in these uncanny portentous speeches with words like hubris and phrases like “ selling the soul of this area . ” It ’s like 24 encounter Xena meet the Spider - Man melodious meets paint drying . You know what I mean .
Sean apply logicSo the President send his CDC antiterror squad to the aerodrome where Sophia is trying to set off the computer virus in a loo , but her plan is frustrate and Sean blab out her down with this precious stone of logic : “ You just wanted to help , but it did n’t influence . Now there will be no welfare to your people – it will just be execution . ” Um , would n’t it be slaying to unloose the virus anyway , even if it did profit her mass ?
Meanwhile , Lala disclose she ’s meaning and Sean does the dangle - jaw with her in CDC lockup while aver things like , “ You ’ll get beneficial . It will be fine . ”
And now . . . the moment you ’ve been expect for but probably already saw in the video recording at the top of this post . . . here is what “ the event ” really is OMGWTFBBQCDC ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Simon and Sean are chatting in the airport after Sophia has been contain and Simon says ( and I paraphrase ):
This is n’t over yet . As far as I sleep together Sophia is still bring our people here . You should cognize that our people were here before . We were here first . This piazza was our home before it was yours . But my hoi polloi believe that if we stay here something would happen . We call it the event . It ’s a Renascence — a new stone’s throw . We ’ll switch , we ’ll evolve , but your poeple wo n’t survive it .
That ’s right — the event is the alien singularity . And in true The Event style , it ’s all nonmeaningful .
Totally disoriented , Sean need Simon why humans wo n’t hold out , and I know you ’ll be shocked to discover that Simon say , “ All the answer are hidden in that whorl – everything about where we come from and how it all ends . ” I bet everybody in the writing room was laughing evilly and saying things like , “ We ’re never pass to have to explain what ’s in that scroll ! Cackle cackle ! ” And indeed , that ’s the conclusion of “ the outcome . ” We never hear about it again .
Here comes the portal!So fundamentally the show end with Sophia separate everybody that 2.5 billion of her multitude will be arriving , and the aliens will have to fall back to “ less humane ” means than a flu pandemic to make room for themselves on Earth .
There are several scenes of the President and his console count apprehensively at pictures of earthquakes and “ anomalous electro - radioactivity , ” and saying , “ What does that think ? ” or “ But what does THAT mean ? ”

Then the portal open up up the space crack and there ’s like a giant brown swirly matter inside – then there ’s a planet with lots of lava on it ! And then we can see the lava planet in the sky over Earth ! It ’s Earth ! It ’s Lava Planet ! Whoa what is happening ! ! ! ! Is Earth next to the other satellite ? Has the other planet teleport next to Earth ? Are they just using Cosmic Skype to talk to each other ? Hello ?
Everybody runs outside , include Martinez and his married woman , and they ’re all look into the sky . “ What is it ? ” Martinez ’ small fry ask his mom . “ It ’s home , ” she says . Hey , she really was an extraterrestrial !
And that ’s the end . Admit it – you ’re going to miss finding out about the scary brown - and - red thing in the space fissure just a little bit .
