Well , I hate to fall apart it to you , but a hack lately spat on your puerility nostalgia by breaking into the ship’s company ’s database and stealing data on millions of customer .
A cybercriminal who go by the nickname “ TarTarX ” has take responsibility for the hack , bleep Computer originallyreported . On a sinister web forum , the criminal claimed that they had abstract information on 69 million Neopet exploiter . Portions of the haul were shared with bleep Computer and appear to reveal a wealth of personal information , including usernames , real names , birthdays , zip codes , e-mail addresses … you get the picture .
TarTarX is now attempting to sell the steal treasure trove for four bitcoin ( approximately $ 94,000 ) . The treasure trove could contain tender personal information on minors , though Neopets has say theaverage age of its 100,000 daily active users is now 18 - 34 . The site require musician to be 13 or older to register .

Neopets has since confirmed that they were hack . In statements posted to theirTwitterandInstagramaccounts , the company acknowledge that it “ recently became aware that customer datum may have been slip ” and that it “ appears that email addresses and word used to get at Neopets accounts may have been affected . ” The fellowship lend :
“ We strongly recommend that you change your Neopets password . If you use the same password on other website , we recommend that you also change those passwords . As our probe continues , we will update you as appropriate . ”
Neopets has remained surprisingly popular since the company first launched over two decades ago . The party claim that many of its daily alive users have played continuously for more than 15 years .
